The Importance of a Yearly Deep Clean of Your Ductless System

Providing improved air quality and energy efficiency, Ductless Heating and Cooling Systems offer comfort year-round for you and your loved ones. These systems are proven to last for a long time, but part of ensuring that longevity is monthly filter cleaning and periodic deep cleaning, usually every three years.

Your Ductless System Will Last Longer

Since Ductless Systems are more efficient and don’t contract dirt as easily as duct-based systems do, they tend to have long life spans. Most Ductless Systems tend to last between 15 to 20 years

Clean Your Indoor and Outdoor Components Often

Ductless Heating and Cooling Systems have filters that catch dirt, dust, and allergens in the air. Cleaning the filters with a small vacuum each month will allow your unit to run smoothly, and you’ll get the maximum return on investment for your ductless system.

The filter is crucial to a ductless system’s function. If it’s clogged with dirt or grime, the system will struggle to pull in air, and your room will feel hotter or colder than it should. Plus, if you have pets, you should be checking your filters more often, considering the hair and dander that pets can carry and shed.

You should also ensure the outdoor part of your Ductless Heating and Cooling System is clear of debris or vegetation. This way, the system gets proper airflow and doesn’t have to work extra hard to regulate the temperature. In the winter, ensure that you clear snow from the unit or create a shelter to protect the machine and avoid malfunctioning.

Regular Cleaning Also Reduces Mold

By cleaning your Ductless Heating and Cooling System, you remove contaminants in and around the coils that could lead to mold buildup. Much like dirt and dust, mold can drastically affect ductless system performance, causing cool air to come through the splits when you’re supposed to be heating your home and vice versa.

The higher the moisture content on the coils, the more bacteria will grow on your unit. If you live in a hot and humid climate, your need for a cleaning is even more vital as such a climate encourages mold growth.

Let the Pros Take Care of the Deep Clean

To make sure your units last, schedule a deep clean inside and out. Deep cleaning your Ductless Heating and Cooling System is a layered process.

Take the case of your ductless heat pump. The first step is to remove the front cover of your indoor unit, then apply a custom bib that goes under the bottom and around the sides of it.. The bib is used to protect your wall and floor from water and cleaners used during the deep cleaning process.

From there, we spray the coil of your heat pump with a foaming coil cleaner, removing dust and dirt buildup, and allowing the unit to absorb more heat. After the cleaner has been applied and sits for a few minutes, we spray it off with water, which runs into the plastic bib.

Finally, we’ll need to clean the fan. This is an area where most dirt builds up. We spray it then dispose of all the dirty water that collects from the deep cleaning.

As far as the outdoor part of your Ductless Heating and Cooling System, do not spray your outdoor unit with a high-pressure washer or hose. That can damage the coil of your ductless system almost instantly.
