Ductless Heat Pump Rebates in Washington: What South Sound Homeowners Need to Know

If you’ve been putting off a ductless heat pump because of the upfront cost, there’s a good chance your utility will cover part of it. Ductless heat pump rebates are available to most South Sound homeowners, and most people have no idea what they qualify for until they actually ask.

This post walks through how rebates work, which utilities offer them in this area, and what the process actually looks like when you go through Alpine Ductless. The short version: we handle all the paperwork, and the rebate comes off your invoice before you pay.

What Is a Ductless Heat Pump Rebate?

A rebate is money back from your utility or a government program when you install an energy-efficient heating system. The idea is simple: it costs utilities less to pay you to use less power than to build new infrastructure to meet peak demand. So they offer rebates to homeowners who switch to efficient systems.

For most Alpine customers, the rebate isn’t a check that arrives in the mail weeks later. It’s a deduction that comes off your quote before installation day. You pay less from the start. Alpine Ductless files the paperwork and collects from your utility directly.

If you want to understand how the cost of a ductless system plays out over time, this breakdown of how a heat pump pays you back is worth reading before you make a final call.

Which Utilities Offer Ductless Heat Pump Rebates in the South Sound?

The rebate you qualify for depends on your utility provider. The utilities below cover most South Sound homeowners, but they’re not the only programs available in the region. If you don’t see your utility listed, give us a call at (360) 615-2740 and we’ll let you know what’s available for your area.

Ductless heat pump rebates by utility company

Puget Sound Energy has one of the widest service areas in Washington, covering Thurston, Pierce, South King, and most of Kitsap County. Their rebate amounts vary based on what system you’re replacing, your income level, and whether you’re in a manufactured home. We confirm the exact figure at your estimate so there are no surprises.

Tacoma Public Utilities customers have access to some of the most straightforward rebate figures in the region. A standard installation qualifies for a $1,000 rebate. Income-qualified households can see significantly more. TPU also offers a zero-interest loan up to $20,000 over seven years if you prefer to spread out the remaining cost.

Peninsula Light customers in Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsula, and surrounding areas can qualify for between $600 and $1,700 depending on what system they’re replacing. Switching from gas, oil, or baseboard heat qualifies for the highest amount. Income-qualified households may be eligible for up to $9,000 through PenLight’s assistance program. We confirm eligibility at your free estimate.

Income-Qualified Rebates: Bigger Savings for Qualifying Homeowners

If your household income falls within a certain range, you may qualify for substantially more than the standard rebate. Several utilities in the South Sound have income-qualified programs specifically designed to make heat pumps accessible for homeowners who might not otherwise be able to afford the switch.

TPU’s income-qualified program applies a $7,000 rebate at installation, plus a deferred loan that covers a significant portion of the remaining balance. For many families, that means a new heat pump with very little out of pocket today. The deferred loan doesn’t need to be repaid until you sell your home.

Mason County PUD 3, Lewis County PUD, and Kitsap County programs also have income-qualified options that can reach up to $8,000. Funding in these programs is sometimes limited, so we always check availability before scheduling.

Peninsula Light income-qualified households can also see up to $9,000 through PenLight’s assistance program, making it one of the stronger income-qualified options in the region for Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula homeowners.

Not sure whether you qualify? We figure that out at your free estimate. You don’t need to research the eligibility requirements on your own.

Do You Have to Wait for a Rebate Check?

Most people assume the rebate is something they’ll chase down after installation. A form to file, a check to wait for. That’s not how it works when you go through Alpine Ductless.

We apply the rebate directly to your invoice. Before you sign anything, you see the rebate as a line item on your written quote. The total you’re agreeing to pay already has the rebate subtracted. Alpine submits the paperwork to your utility and collects from them. You’re not waiting on anyone.

The one thing we need from you is your utility account number and a signature on the rebate form. That’s it.

What Does the Process Actually Look Like?

Here’s what happens from the first call to installation day:

How Alpine handles your rebate

Most customers are surprised by how little they have to do. The rebate process has a reputation for being complicated. When you go through a contractor who handles it regularly, it’s not.

Manufactured Homes: A Note on Additional Savings

If you live in a manufactured home and are on PSE, you may have access to a larger rebate than a standard single-family homeowner. PSE specifically covers manufactured homes under their ductless heat pump programs, often at higher amounts due to the efficiency gains involved. Because PSE’s figures vary based on your specific setup and current system, we confirm the exact amount at your estimate. Give us a call or request a free estimate, and we’ll tell you exactly what applies to your home.

How Long Do These Rebate Programs Last?

Rebate programs do change. Some get updated annually. A few have been suspended or restructured over the years when funding ran out or utility priorities shifted.

The figures on this page reflect what’s currently available through 2026 programs. We stay current on every utility we work with, so when you get an estimate from Alpine, you’re hearing about what’s live right now, not what was available last year.

If you’ve been considering the switch for a while, sooner is better than later. The fastest way to know what’s available for your home is a free in-home estimate.
